The FLW Walmart Tour has its roadshow at Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley this week and the most of the anglers spent Day 1 of the four-day, $100,000-to-the-winner tournament probing the ledges and creek channels of the two massive lowland reservoirs.
Ledge fishing is an almost foolproof June bass tactic on Kentucky and Barkley; both of which have a solid reputation for producing big numbers of bass. They didn’t disappoint Thursday. The pros and co-anglers combined to bring more than 1,000 fish (1,098) that nearly weighed a ton and a half (2,929 pounds 15 ounces) to the weigh-in.
Pros Ramie Colson Jr. from Cadiz, Ky., and Glenn Chappelear of Acworth, Ga., share the Day 1 lead. Both guys delivered a five fish limit that weighed 23 pounds 5 ounces. Less than four pounds separate first and 10 place.
