Bass Lure of the Day . . . Seeing Red

Randy Howell has been fishing bass tournaments for more than two decades but the Springville, Ala., resident leapt to household name status yesterday by winning the Bassmaster Classic championship on Alabama’s Lake Guntersville.

Howell hauled in a stunning 29 pounds 2 ounce, 5-fish limit in Sunday’s final round. It was enough to lift him from 11th place into the winner’s circle.

Howell is undoubtedly pleased with his victory but the folks at Rapala and Livingston Lures are probably pretty happy, too. The bulk of his Day 3 catch came off a stretch of rip rap cover. And according to Frank Sargeant’s report in The Fishing Wire www.thefishingwire.com most of those fish were caught on a crawfish red Rapala DT6 and a Livingston Lures medium running crankbait prototype, also in red.
