Lake Ontario

LEWISTON, NY – Capt. Danny Hilts’ predicted we would “go big or go home.” An unexpected 18-knot northwest wind coupled with failed electronics and minor engine trouble on Hilts’ 30-foot Boston Whaler combined to make his prediction come true.

We went home.

Hilts (that’s him in the photo) is an excellent charter captain – young (27) aggressive and skilled. He grew up fishing Lake Ontario and surrounding waters. Trolling for king salmon is one of his favorite ways to fish. However, the weather and the missing electronics (he was basically fishing blind with no accurate way to gauge the depth) combined to send us to the marina empty handed.

We’ll try again tomorrow on some tributary waters that help feed the Great Lakes.
